How do you keep pointe shoes smelling nice?

Everyday when I finish using my pointe shoes, they smell really bad. How can I keep my shoes and toe pads smelling better? Also are toe pads okay to wash? I have Gellows reversible cloth/gel toe pads, Bunheads toe spacers, and Chacott Veronese pointe shoes. All answers will be greatly appreciated!!

for the gel toe pads, you should keep them in an air-tight tupperware container filled with baby powder. the baby powder will absorb a lot of the sweat, therefore keeping your toepads fresher. also, there's this stuff that discountdance.com sells called sweet feet, and i think it's meant for pointe shoes. they also sell poulperri (however you spell that) thingies that fit into pointe shoes.

PS: whynogo2: that's wrong, the febreze will ruin the satin i do believe! you don't want that!!!!!!!!!
Reply:spray febreeze on them and then lay them out in the sun all day- did wonders for my jazz shoes!!!
Reply:the spacers and pads are fine to wash, ot the shoes! febreeze is about the only option that won't warp the shape of the shoes, just make sure you aren't saturating the satin. you can also throw odor eaters inthe shoes. veronese are pretty soft to begin with, so you don't want to get a llot of liquid on them to make them break downany quicker.
