Shoes or slippers help Ladies?
Can some1 plz tel me were can i find shoe buckle or shoe latch for my shoe(hopefully am using the correct word, if not plz correct me) 1 of my latches slip out and i dont wanna buy a whole slippers jus for dat part (its da part dat we buckle wen were putting on a slipper or shoes)

I found some great shoes for my husband's clown costume but they need to be a bright color. I tried spray painting and I'm afraid it will scrap off. I've already started with the orange but when I tried to tape it off to paint the green, some of the orange peeled off.

Pointe shoes! for beginner!?
I want to get pointe shoes, but not take pointe, i take ballet, but i hear and have read that to take pointe you have to be really committed and take like 4 hours of ballet a week. what is a good brand? could you just tell me a a good shoe for begginers! like the number of the shoe, should i get a soft shank? i dont no all the terms please, give me a good shoe plus all that info. i have small narrow feet, i am size 6 1/2 what size would i be in the shoe? i am in junoir high and i want to get shoes off ebay, i dont want to spend 60 dollars on shoes i wnot use every day. i need advice, i have taken ballet for 7 years, and never pointe, my studio is a top 50 studio in the US and they dont offe rpointe, but i want to be a fashion designer, and i go to ptivate school, but they have no danc eteam and i like cheer, i dont no what ot do with my life! o, i also would like to take a sewing class and art class but there are none offered around here....ugh...help!

The only person who could tell you if you are ready for pointe would be your dance teacher, you have to have very strong ankles or else you can seriously injure yourself, which is a reason why you shouldn't self-teach. Another reason why you shouldn't teach yourself is because you can get yourself into bad habbits and teach yourself the wrong technique, dancing pointe is no where near the same as to dancing flat ballet. Another thing, ordering pointe shoes on ebay are a BIG no, I can not stress this enough. Unless you have danced en pointe before and have been professionally fitted for those shoes you CAN NOT buy pointe shoes on ebay they do not run like street shoes and every shoe is different, one shoe might work for your foot and another may not. Pointe shoes have to be very fitted to your foot and depending on the width and arch of your foot effects the style of shoe you should get and how strong your feet are could also effect what kind of shank you use. Bottom line, don't teach yourself pointe. I know you are very eager to throw yourself up en pointe, but it's not safe, find another studio near by that offers it. Every studio has their own requirements as to how much ballet you need to take with pointe, i take ONE ballet class for an hour with my pointe class, that's it, but I also take many other classes as well. Dance is a commitment and you have to want to do it. As far as the cheer, art and sewing classes, I don't know where you live so I cannot suggest places but why don't you look around in your local papers, online and stuff. Just ask around.

You definitely need some running shoes to train in, and spikes are optional, if you have them you will do A LOT BETTER. When you say relays and middle distance, I will assume that the longest relay you will run is the 4x400m and the longest "middle distance you will run is the 800, mile + 2 mile is considered long distance and the 400 is sprinting. So you will probably want sprinting spikes because you will be running 400s and 800s, but when you go to a running store, tell them which events you are running and they can help you decide.
Reply:You don't need track spikes, any pair of tennis shoes should work fine. I would start the season out with normal shoes then, if you feel good enough and are important to your team I would look into getting a good pair of Spikes.

So you will probably want sprinting spikes because you will be running 400s and 800s, but when you go to a running store, tell them which events you are running and they can help you decide.
Reply:You don't need track spikes, any pair of tennis shoes should work fine. I would start the season out with normal shoes then, if you feel good enough and are important to your team I would look into getting a good pair of Spikes.

If you are not studying pointe with your ballet teacher, you should not be doing it at all. You could damage your feet and get seriously injured if you attempt pointe work without proper instruction.

it depends on the material on the shoes. if they are canvas, go with fabric paint (the kind that comes in the little squeezy bottles at craft stores). but if they are leather then spray paint will work a lot better and is less likely to flake off. dont use acrylic or tempera. acrylic will flake off almost immediately when it dries on leather, and on cloth it makes it stiff and inflexible. tempera comes off with water, so thats an obvious no.

Should I use ballet or pointe shoes?
I'm just starting pre-pointe and my school gives you a choose of ballet slippers or pointe shoes. Which do you think is better for me? I'm taking another ballet class with it to so I was thinking pointe shoes, but I'm not sure. Also should I buy toegels to put in my pointe shoes if I get them?

First, you should make sure your foot is fully developed so you don't mess up your feet. I think you should start with ballet shoes and start doing 50 rises on each foot every day. This will strengthen your ankles and prepare you for pointe.
Reply:Only if you are at least 11 yrs old, weigh 80 lbs and have had a min. of 3 yrs ballet class (not combo classes) should you even consider pointe shoes. I don't recommend shoes of the "pre-pointe" category that have a toe box but no shank because who could resist the temptation to try to get up on them. Foolish mistake if you're legs are not developed yet. You'll never be able to dance properly on pointe if you get an early injury. The answer to gel pads has to come with a proper fitting and only at that time, because there has to be room in the shoe to accomodate that kind of stuffing without lifting your fot too far out of the toe box. Ask as many questions as you can. I think you need to understand the process a little better.

Reply:I would use pointe shoes as well so you get use to the feel of them. Pointe shoes are tighter and harder, so you'll have to learn to balance and walk in them even en flat.
You should definitely use some sort of padding even if it's just a paper towel. I use bunheads ouch pouches.
I would also bring your ballet flats to pre pointe as well just in case it gets too uncomfortable. Usually going up on full pointe is reserved for the last 10 minutes of class.

Reply:Unless your teacher has told you that you are ready for pointe shoes, then you should be using technique (flat) shoes. There is no advantage to starting pointe before you are ready, and in fact, you can permanently injure yourself if you start too early.
You can use gel pads if you need them. You can use whatever you need to if you need it, unless your school has a rule against it. I know plenty of people who use everything from make-up wedges to corn pads to gel heel inserts (yes, in the toe box) to padded tape to ouch pouches to masking tape to simple gel pads. The structure of your foot and the fit of your shoes will determine what you need - I can't tell you, and neither can anyone else here on the computer.
Reply:If you are just starting out, you shouldn't push yourself too hard too fast. This could lead to injury. Your pointe instructor will know best. I do not know your level, or ankle stregnth, therefore it will be very hard for any of us to give you good information.
Toe gels are the best invention ever, in my opinion! I would definatly suggest buying some! But, each dancer will find exactly what she likes to use best.

Reply:u should talk to your teacher and see what he or she thinks, u have to make sure that your ankles are strong enough and that your feet have stopped growing if you want to use pointe shoes. If you are taking a seperate technique class, then it would probably be a good idea for you to get pointe shoes as long as you get the best of both worlds u should be fine
Reply:I would use pointe shoes as well so you get use to the feel of them. Pointe shoes are tighter and harder, so you'll have to learn to balance and walk in them even en flat.
You should definitely use some sort of padding even if it's just a paper towel. I use bunheads ouch pouches.
I would also bring your ballet flats to pre pointe as well just in case it gets too uncomfortable. Usually going up on full pointe is reserved for the last 10 minutes of class.

You can use gel pads if you need them. You can use whatever you need to if you need it, unless your school has a rule against it. I know plenty of people who use everything from make-up wedges to corn pads to gel heel inserts (yes, in the toe box) to padded tape to ouch pouches to masking tape to simple gel pads. The structure of your foot and the fit of your shoes will determine what you need - I can't tell you, and neither can anyone else here on the computer.

Toe gels are the best invention ever, in my opinion! I would definatly suggest buying some! But, each dancer will find exactly what she likes to use best.

you want to put your weight in your heels, but lean forward to keep your balence, and place one foot infront of the other (for me it's left, but for you it may be different). practice and you'll eventually get it.

Your best bet is to get a inexpensive running shoe that good for jogging and running during free time.
If your going to be in races I would also get spikes.. because they are light weigh and help you grip the surface better.

My point is, they are excellent for smoothe surfaces but running shoes are great for unbalanced surfaces. I guess if you were jogging on a sidewalk then it wouldn't matter but it's best to use running shoes when you're out on grass/dirt rodes etc. Hope this helps and goodluck :)

Are platform shoes really so dangerous for driving?
Some time ago, a driver got killed because her platform shoes prevented her from braking in time.
But why exactly couldn't she brake?
Is it really because of the sole thickness or more likely because of the driver herself (maybe she was not used to wearing such shoes)?

- the shoe became loose or twisted, and she couldn't maneuver her foot to the brake quickly
- the shoe came completely off and got behind the pedal, preventing her from pressing it.
IMPORTANT: A key thing to know is that even at moderate speed, a split second is a very long time. If you brake a split second before, you could just barely miss something. If you brake a split second later, you could plow into it with much more force. So, even if her shoes created just a very small problem for her getting to the brake, those split seconds may have made the difference between a near-miss and a terrible accident, and may have cost her her life.
Reply:I'm thinking the soles were so thick and when she went to take her foot from the gas to the brake she didn't lift her foot high enough and it only hit the side of the brake instead of going on it. I used to wear platforms all the time, and I must say there were the most comfortable shoes to wear and dance it. My feet never hurt. I cannot see how they would be bad for your health. They offer a lot of support for your foot. You can twist your ankle though if the shoes don't fit properly. They are better than those tiny spike heels women used to wear all the time. Way too much stress was put on the ligaments of the foot and ankles with those things.
Clogs are another issue. I was teaching a friend to drive and she wore clogs. She actualy slipped out of them and we went banging into a pole with a reflector on it. Thank God it was in a college parking lot and not out in traffic. I made her wear regular shoes after that.

They were cheap and cute. Plus they are new balance. If I put the Dr.Scholes(the gel thing that you put in your shoes)will that help me?

I could not believe it!!

I have been running for 8 years now. Though I am biased towards Nike as a brand, I would recommend you to go to a running-specific store, like Fleet Feet in Carrboro, NC. They can help you find the right shoe because people buy shoes that aren't necessarily right for their feet, but more comfortable or fashionable. But after you get the correct shoes or even if you haven't, I would go to any major athletics store and ask the sales associates because they are getting paid to know the products they are selling. Good luck!!!

Can I use cross-country shoes for sprinting?
You probably can, but it's definitely not good too. Cross county shoes are made for dirt and rocks, to protect your feet and reduce twisting your ankles. Spring shoes are more aerodynamic. They feel weightless, and help you run faster. I wouldn't suggest using cross country shoes for sprinting.

Use shoe dye. It goes on like shoe polish (not as thick) and comes in a variety of colors. That's what I used on slippers and on pointe shoes.

I am looking for a "lock" so that I won't have to tie and untie my running shoes, and use my present laces.
Go to a shoemaker and have him replace the ties with a zipper. Sorry to hear that it is so much of a chore to tie and untie your running shoes. Basically they are made to be used with laces, to be adjusted to a comfortable fit.

I have very narrow feet. I used to buy my shoes from International (model "Melissa") but now they changed this model to be less narrow. They have a special order option for narrow, but when they make it they are actually almost the same as regular. Does anyone know good respectable Ladies Latin shoe that runs narrow? Is the store Parade of Shoes no longer around?
I used to love their shoes, they were good quality, fashionable and economical! I don't like spending lots of money on my shoes because they get wrecked from walking in the city. Does anyone know if these stores are gone?? I can't even find a website...

Does anyone have an opinion on his shoes? I like the style of many of them, but what about the quality? I recently purchased a pair of Steve Madden's and they have not held up well at all. I used to buy Bass shoes a lot and think their quality is great, but the styling just isnt there.

running shoes whether they are jogging shoes or track spikes are made to take the beating of thousands of steps and/or for very short fast bursts of speed
soccer cleats are made to create traction to not slip during kicks and to make powerful, accurate kicks
also you might run the risk of the running shoe's sole falling off if you kick too hard during a soccer game (and that wont be good)
if i were you i would get a good pair of soccer cleats and put away the running shoes just for running
your aim, kicks, and overall play will prove to be better

I have small (size 4 adult), narrow flat feet. I HATE wearing high heels, although I'm trying to work my way into becoming comfortable with them by buying shoes with a thicker heel and then gradually going narrower and higher.

With platform pedals, you can use just about any shoe you want. In the past I've bought "cycling shoes" that weren't much different from an ordinary athletic shoe. The only cycling specific feature, other than the brand name, might have been a tread pattern that marginally helped flipping a platform pedal over to get the toe clip up into the air. I have had very good luck with a fairly stiff soled New Balance athletic shoe.
Some cycling specific shoes designed for clipless pedals have soles that are fairly reasonable for walking in terms of flex and traction. You just have to shop around.

When using platform pedals can do u use the biking shoes without the pedals or regular running shoes?
With platform pedals, you can use just about any shoe you want. In the past I've bought "cycling shoes" that weren't much different from an ordinary athletic shoe. The only cycling specific feature, other than the brand name, might have been a tread pattern that marginally helped flipping a platform pedal over to get the toe clip up into the air. I have had very good luck with a fairly stiff soled New Balance athletic shoe.
