Since the 18th century, shoes are produced out of the rubber of Hevea brasiliensis, with less or -after development of vulcanization ( 1839 – Charles Goodyear ) - more success.
But rubber is waterproof, so humidity cant go out of the shoes, a perfect warm and moisty environment for fungus.
So, the fungus doesn`t come from the tree, humans are anywise contaminated and the fungus grows . Wearing leather-shoes it might be repelled from natural antibodies.
In the first publication you find a notice about a fungus-infection of the rubber tree, but nothing about transfer to humans.
What tree in brazil if use to manufacture shoes would transfer a fungus to a humans?
The rubber tree is called in Brazil "seringueira". It is not a native tree! It was brought here several decades ago. Concerning the fungus, I'll stick to the answer above.
