Breaking in a new pair of running shoes?

Got a new pair yesterday and used them at the gym today - just walking on the treadmill. They seem to have support in different places than my old shoes and my feet were hurting (kinda like crampy feeling) from them. Is this something that will go away - I will get used to the new shoes - or a sign that this is a bad pair. They fit great otherwise.

Breaking in a new pair of running shoes?
I don't get the last answer at all. All shoes need to be broken in, and it doesn't matter where you buy them. If they fit well, it could just be that your feet weren't used to them., or that you weren't accustomed to walking on a treadmill. It shouldn't take three weeks to break them in; a few days should be sufficient.
Reply:they will break in soon...I got a pair of good New Balance shoes and they took a while to break in
Reply:If they feel good everywhere else, try tying your shoes laces a different way so there is no pressure points.

Reply:Actually, I read in the textbook from my personal fitness class that you should buy shoes that fit you just right. Don't expect the shoes to stretch. They should comfortable for you the second you try them on. Good luck!
Reply:You shouldn't have to "break in" running shoes. They should fit your feet properly when you get them. Doesn't mean you got a bad pair -- it just means they're not good shoes for your feet. You can try breaking them in, but it'll take at least three weeks and it may not work anyway. Next time you go shopping for shoes, go to a specialty store where they'll check your feet and recommend shoes that'll work for you.
Reply:I'll second Sarge...you shouldn't have to "break in" new running shoes. It's really important to go to a running store to be fitted by someone who knows their stuff. Running shoes should feel comfortable from the start. If it's a good store, they'll analyze your gait using a test shoe and then bring out a lot of shoes for you to try on for a test run. If they don't feel right, you have the wrong shoe for your foot. Running shoes are the one pair of shoes you buy without considering looks!
