I wouldn't squash them at all. I wouldn't risk it.
Should I only use flat soled shoes to squash roaches so no eggs survive and breed?
Yuck. Put out roach bait. Killing them one by one won't get rid of them. Use it once a month as directed for about 3 or 4 months.
