Is there any significant difference between boxing shoes and wrestling shoes? If not, can wrestling shoes be used in place of boxing shoes? I only ask because it's quite easy to find wrestling shoes, but no retailer anywhere even remotely close to me sells boxing shoes(and I'd rather not buy boxing shoes online becasue of sizing concerns). So what exactly are the specific, technical differences between these two types of shoes? Are they really so different that I should not go out and by a pair of wrestling shoes to wear while hitting my heavy bag?; especially since my only alternative to buying and wearing wrestling shoes would be continuing to wear simple, ordinary tennis-shoes. Thanks.
Are there any real significant differences between boxing shoes and wrestling shoes?
There is not much difference with some brands. For instance the Adidas Tryint III is sold as both a wrestling and boxing shoe.
Reply:well it depends if you are an in-fighter or out-fighter. with in fighting you want something that has great grip so you can really push off with your legs more, but if you are an out fighter then you want something light and easy for you to maneuver in.
but ultimately they are the same-thing
Reply:Generally the basic fighting shoe format is the same (like even the knights of old wore) that being a soft flexible shoe with a flat sole.Too much marketing goes into footwear these days, especially when in parelell sports (kickboxing and judo) they can go without shoes anyway.
But to stick to principals I think a wrestling shoe used for boxing is better than the other way around.
The wrestling shoe is considered to be more specialised than boxing. It bends in half easier(toe to ankle) for driving with the toes on the ground, grips better, technically supports the ankle better, and has a heel better for pivoting back for throws.
The main issue I could see using a wrestling shoe for boxing would be if the grip is too much or too pronounced for what you are training on?
two best suggestions I can give are ask your coach, my usual reply. He is like your doctor :)
And just buy boxing boots over the net. Most should have a return policy.
Reply:wrestling shoes are fine to use for boxing ,alot of amateurs use wrestling shoes the only difference is boxing shoes go up higher on your leg ,but the soles or the same. tennis shoes are fine for training but may slide a little when in the ring sparring and are heavier and will tire your legs faster but are better for other training exercises .boxing and wrestling shoes have the same type of sole made to keep you from sliding on the canvas .i would recommend getting the wrestling shoes ,they are cheaper, especially since you may have to mail order boxing shoes and have to pay a shipping and handling fee or drive all over looking for a store that sells them.where you regular tennis shoes for training and put your wrestling or boxing shoes on only when actually getting into the ring.you wont be the only one in your gym with wrestling shoes on,im sure.
Reply:one pair you use to box and the other, well........wrestle?
