How many people throw away clothes or shoes they don't use anymore?

I'm doing a speech on why we should donate clothing and shoes we no longer use to the less fortunate and have to back it up with facts.

How many people throw away clothes or shoes they don't use anymore?
The average consumer spends way more than he/she needs to on items that are not used until they wear out. So, we are thus a society of wastefulness. I recycle things. I don't have good luck with garage sales (I live on the wrong side of the tracks and no one comes) but I do donate to the homeless shelter, the spouse abuse center, and Goodwill where they train people in the consumer market. Reply:I usually donate old clothes and shoes to the "Salvation Army or Goodwill Industry". It's a tax write-off.
Reply:whae I am done with my clothing they are not worth waring anymore. I mean they are really worn out. But if you want them you can have them.
Reply:i throw them away. i have no car and it is too hard for me to take them by bus as i am in a wheelchair
Reply:yahoo offers a really great group site called Freecycle and they have them for mostly all city's around the world people but in search ofs and post what they have to give away free. i have seen a lot of people trying to give away cloths and stuff on there and shoes even you might want to put that in your report.
Reply:I donate stuff that's still good, or if it's not, I sort by color and use it to make quilts. I usually don't donate shoes bebause I save them to garden in so they are really abused.
Reply:I do...I'm too lazy to drive to a donation site. I feel bad about it, but haven't changed my habits.





P.S. I am a shoe lover, so never throw those away, they are always worn out or a strap broken before they get thrown away.
Reply:i always donate my clothes, i think if I'm not gonna wear them anymore ill give them to someone less fortunate than me.
Reply:I tend to wear my clothes until they are worn. But I have had some pairs of sneakers that I ordered online and found did not fit or feel right. I gave 1 pair to my father and the other one I gave to a regular customer where I use to work. He was polite so he got them.





I have read in one book (adventure capitalist) that a guy was in Africa and found alot of those clothes we donate to churches to be sent to the poor in africa usualy end up going to a market. He claimed the boxes of clothes will be brought to a port where they are unloaded and people scramble to take boxes of clothes to sell in markets.





I recommend that if you are going to donate your clothes, first see if anyone you know wants them. Whatever is left you can give to local homeless people on the street if they want it and to homeless shelters. Atleast you know the clothes will go to people who need it and not to some guy out to make a buck.
Reply:My family usually donates all our uneeded stuff...people should donate more, since the people who are less fortunate are as well humans...people who don't donate should, unless they're to selfish or LAZY

Reply:As long as the clothes are in reasonable condition, I always give them to the charity shops. Otherwise I recycle them.

Reply:I donate the clothes and shoes that still look nice and could be worn by someone else. Normally, I donate to a local women's shelter or Goodwill. The ones that are stained or torn either go in the garbage or become rags for cleaning. I try to get as much use as possible out of my things.





I also donate things like old dishes or toys that I do not use, but still loOK ok and could be used by someone else. I have been doing this for the past ten years.
Reply:Depending on how good or bad i have a yard sale, or donate. rarely do I throw away but I have.
Reply:I take my families unwanted/outgrown clothing and shoes to our school. We have plenty of families in our own community that need them. I would imagine alot of people just throw things away, it's a shame, when they could be put to good use.

Reply:Umm underwear and bras yea. I don't think anybody wants those. haha. but all my old junk goes to Sal-Val or yards sales. :)

Reply:Sometimes close are so worn that they are not donation worthy. Shoes also.


I believe that more people would donate their clothing if they knew more about places to donate and take them to.
